magpie lark

noun a common black and white bird, Grallina cyanoleuca, with a loud piping voice, pairs often sing in antiphonic duet; ranges across the entire mainland, absent from Tasmania. Compare mud lark, Murray magpie, peewee.

Contributor's comments: This is the common name of this bird in Perth as well. I prefer to call them Peewees myself, they are way dumber than magpies.
