kyogle

this word was used in Queensland more specifically Brisbane to describe a. any passenger train between Brisbane and Sydney (ie the Brisbane/Sydney Limited Express) between the completion of the standard gauge link to Brisbane (1930) and the introductiion of diesels (mid-fifties) b. the first division thereof c. any steam engine on the NSW line: We're going to Sydney on the Kyogle; Are you going on the Kyogle or the Second Division?; There goes the Kyogle (me on hearing the 'quark quark' of the NSW engines while playing in our yard about one mile east of Yeerongpilly station).
Contributor's comments: Note also David Malouf use of Kyogle in 'The Kyogle Line.' He refers to South Brisbane Interstate Station as 'Kyogle Station'. I was not familiar with this use.
