yeast bun

also known as a finger bun: I like those delicious yeast buns with the pink icing and coconut on top. Compare fruit bun.

Contributor's comments: Also known in far western NSW.

Contributor's comments: [Adelaide informant] A yeast bun is different to a finger bun; first is round no icing, second is long and with icing.

Contributor's comments: In South Australia this would be a generic name for one of a vairety of buns - not just a finger bun - there are round buns, London Buns, Chelsea Buns, nut buns, fruit buns. On my travels in Australia it has always appeared to me that there is a wider range of "yeast" available in SA than in the other States.

Contributor's comments: Grew up in Melbourne knowing yeast buns as round sticky (glazed) fruit buns. In Qld these are called fruit buns.

Contributor's comments: I'd agree that yeast bun is used more generically in SA, but I have to say I've never actually heard finger buns referred to as yeast buns. A finger bun is only ever a finger bun.
