frog cake

a cake specially made by Balfours: Let's have a frog cake.

Contributor's comments: A kind of kid's cake sold by Balfours in Adelaide. It is a small sponge cake in a patty pan covered with green icing in the shape of a frog face: "Why don't you buy the kids a couple of frog cakes?"

Contributor's comments: One of the pleasures of my childhood in the 60's was a green frog cake. They also come in chocolate, but green seemed, and still seems, the more appropriate colour.

Contributor's comments: A very famous South Australian cake!

Contributor's comments: Frog Cakes also come in pink. I believe that the eyes are still put on by hand. I seem to remember that when I was a child Balfours did a range of "iced fancies" of which the frog cake was one.

Contributor's comments: Yes, but have you tried to eat one as an adult? I did a few weeks ago... whoah! Sweet!
