hamburger

In Victoria a hamburger is a beef pattie in a bun. In Brisbane, we ordered hamburgers and received a grilled slice of ham on a bun: A hamburger with the lot please.

Contributor's comments: Hamburger as described isn't restricted to Melbourne - anyone anywhere in Victoria would give the same description.

Contributor's comments: I would have thought that a hamburger always contained a meat pattie, and I have had them that way in Queensland too. But I have had the experience in Queensland of looking at the price board, and wondering why a cheeseburger was cheaper than a hamburger. Answer: In Sydney, a hamburger contains both meat pattie and cheese, and in Queensland, cheese alone.
