Melways

The suburban road map: The Melways reference is page 43 A6; I don't know where it is - I'll look it up in the Melways. Compare Refidex.
Contributor's comments: I think Queenslanders use Referdex?

Contributor's comments: The Melways is a brand of roadmap available in Melbourne and is the most popular road map in use in Melbourne. Melways means that particular name of road map, it does not refer to road maps in general.

Contributor's comments: Melbournians use 'Melways' or sometimes 'UBD', referring to the two major street directories published here. In Brisbane it was always 'refedex'.

Contributor's comments: I have lived in Melbourne all my life, and have always used the term "Melways". Over the past two years I have resided in Sydney. In Sydney they have the "Sydway" directory, which is the same as the "Melways" down in Melbourne, so they often use Sydway to refer to directories, as well.

Contributor's comments: Note that the name of the map book is actually "Melway" - there is no 's' - though it is *always* pronounced "Melways".

Contributor's comments: I don't know why, but this have to be one of the most annoying terms people in Melbourne use! Just call the damn thing a Street directory, since that's what it is!
