slog

"To slog" meant to catch small fish by whacking the surface of the water over or near the fish with a piece of fence wire attached to a broom-stick. The concussion stunned the fish which could then be collected by hand or net. This was in use in the 50's around Lake Macquarie in NSW: Let's go slogging.
