Contributor's comments: In central Queensland we lost an "o" - they were "cods".

Contributor's comments: Never heard them called this in the 50s or 60s when I grew up; but definitely heard them called "cods", which doesn't appear on your list.

Editor's comments: Actually the term "cods" is general slang, not a regionalism. It is used in Britain and the US as well in Australia and dates back to the 16th century! "Coods" on the other hand...well, is anyone else familiar with this usage?

Contributor's comments: I grew up in the central wheatbelt of WA and we were always referring to coods in this context. It was definitely a popular word.
